Tuesday evening saw the official launch of Jennifer Chapin’s new novel, A Song of Songs – Mary Magdalene Awakes, here at the shop.
Despite the unpleasant weather during the day, a crowd of interested folks and enthusiastic friends arrived bearing well wishes, flowers and cards.
When Jennifer began to speak about the process by which the novel came into being, it was abundantly clear that this was a work of creative passion and calling. Her talk was a mini-history lesson, outlining the gnostic gospels that carried the lesser known story of Mary Magdalene and her relationship with Jesus, the sad fate of the Cathars and contemporary veneration of Mary Magdalene in France. Her readings from the novel gave a personal voice to this history as her main character is overwhelmed with memories of lives past.
